STT Sports Lettering Co. was formed under the name of "Dugout Sports" by Jerry B. Thornton Jr. in 1982. Originally a part-time venture the clientele and services grew steadily and in 1985 the then "Thornton's Sport-About" took on its first tackle twill appliqué order. Jerry hand-cut the order in the basement of his home and sewed it with his mothers old sewing machine, forming the foundation of the niche that his company still excels at today. In 1987 the company made the switch to full-time under the new name of "Seattle Tackle Twill" ( STT ).

Today, still under its original ownership, STT Sports Lettering Co. operates in a 4,500 sq ft facility just south of SafeCo. and Quest Fields on 1st Ave S.
